Fans of the late great Lenny Breau know that his recorded catalog is very uneven, and for the most part, the studio records can leave a bit to be desired. The way to really hear what Lenny could do was live, and so when I saw this 2 CD set, “Live At Bourbon Street”, I jumped on it. I wasn’t disappointed, as far as I know, it’s the best CD example of Lenny’s amazing playing available, and so I wanted to make sure that I could make some people aware of it. This live recording shows Breau and long time bassist Dave Young playing duo, as Lenny does better than almost anyone, in Toronto’s “Bourbon Street” jazz restaurant and watering hole.

Lenny plays a lot of his favorite standards here, showing his amazing command of reharmonization, 4th voicings, harmonics, flamenco right hand tremolos,  and in general keeping a lot of balls in the air at one time. My purpose here is not to write a book on what I think, but to let people draw their own conclusions, so here’s a great example of what’s on the CD set:
